Fear and Beauty

Since post world war II American society has been living with fear. The cold war and the impending threat of nuclear annihilation has had a profound affect on the American psychi. This has prooved useful to a governing power. Today it seems that the American public has fostered an addiction to fear. The last election seemed to proove that. It is almost as if we have grown accustomed to living in fear and the pursuit of safety no matter what the cost seems to be the modus operandi. Images of death and destruction have haunted the media and impending doom lurks on the horizon of our subconcious. This is not so different than what it is like to be in combat with constant fear and the repetative sight of horrible images. It seems that beauty serves as a counter balance to this stress and gives the phsychi a certain amount of security. Knowledge serves to appease the fear yet it is a daily struggle as the fear and stress are heaped upon the public on a daily basis.

I don't think that your fear associated with art is pathetic at all. It is very natural to fear that which we want most. Some say fear is a guide to show us the way. I agree with you that overcoming the fear could be associated with beauty, at least for me it is, and that beauty can give you a boost of confidence to overcome the next fear that you run in to. I have been battling my fears from the getgo. They don't seem to get any less scary when I confront them but when I overcome them they turn in to cute little puppy dogs curled at my feet. Not scary at all. This doesn't fill me with strength it fills me with wisdom and courage. Throw an email my way becca so we can discuss further.
