Fear and Beauty

Since post world war II American society has been living with fear. The cold war and the impending threat of nuclear annihilation has had a profound affect on the American psychi. This has prooved useful to a governing power. Today it seems that the American public has fostered an addiction to fear. The last election seemed to proove that. It is almost as if we have grown accustomed to living in fear and the pursuit of safety no matter what the cost seems to be the modus operandi. Images of death and destruction have haunted the media and impending doom lurks on the horizon of our subconcious. This is not so different than what it is like to be in combat with constant fear and the repetative sight of horrible images. It seems that beauty serves as a counter balance to this stress and gives the phsychi a certain amount of security. Knowledge serves to appease the fear yet it is a daily struggle as the fear and stress are heaped upon the public on a daily basis.
